our little surprise

A week ago Justin and I got quite the surprise when we found out that because I had severe pre-eclampsia we would need our baby to arrive early. Wow, how quickly things can change. This past week has been a whirlwind...

Tuesday August 24th- our little baby boy's "birth"-day. Born at 5:47 pm- 2 lbs. 10 oz. and 14 1/2 inches long- 10 weeks early! Perfect and absolutely adorable, at first he needed just a little bit of oxygen to help him to breath easier- the thing on his face is called a C Pap. At this point our little boy was nameless. Justin and I still thought we had quite a bit of time to agree on a name...
August 25th- Still doing so great. And still nameless.

August 26th- A little bit of jaundice made it so that he had to be under the bili lights for a bit. Still no name. We just couldn't agree on anything!
August 27th- We finally decided on the most perfect name for our most perfect boy- Keaton. :) By this day he was breathing completely on his own and didn't need the bili lights anymore.

August 28th- It is amazing to us how much he changes everyday. On this day I was released from the hospital. It was so good to finally get home although it is strange to not be so close to Keaton.
August 29th- Justin and I both get to help take care of Keaton each time we go to the NICU to see him. The nurses let us take his temperature, change his diaper, help with his feedings (he is fed through a feeding tube that goes straight to his stomach), and of course we both love it when we get to hold him. He is so little and very cuddly. We are both so happy that he made it here safely and both pray everyday that he can continue to grow and come home to us sometime in the near future. :)

Ashley,
I haven't been able to stop thinking about you since Suzanne told my mom last week when all of this was going on. I am so glad he is doing well. I'm so happy for your little family, and hope that things continue to go well. Congratulations on your sweet little surprise! (P.S. I still wear my Rah Rah shirt all the time, it made me laugh to see that you are wearing yours too. We are probably the only ones that still have them:))

I can't even begin to describe how this makes me feel. how scary it can be and how helpless as a mother you can feel. Babies are tough little buggers. So happy he is healthy and i never thought I would get ankles back either. Did your kidneys and liver start to fail? i gained 35 pounds in water weight over night??

He is beautiful. And this experience will make you a stronger and better mother. You ae in my prayers.

oh and don't be afraid to be a mean mom and tell people no. and to be a germ freak, especially when he learns to eat and gets out it will be rsv season. I was a nazi, and it is ok. Baby comes first not other people's feelings best advice i can give.
