Funny story... Justin's mom really wanted Keaton to ride this mechanical horse, but Keaton wasn't having it especially once it starting moving- Keaton starting screaming and crying. So, Justin's mom was left to ride alone. It was quite humorous. :)
I wasn't sure what to expect at this stop, we didn't know much about this place, and I almost didn't get to find out... Keaton threw a horrendous fit right as our tour was starting so everyone went on without me and Keaton and I went back to the parking lot where I had tons of fun with Keaton who continued to be upset and throw another fit about just anything and everything happening around him... It was so much fun. Oh, well, after everyone else finished their tour Justin and I went on the tour again just the two of us.
I'm not even sure how to explain what this "mystery" site is all about. On the tour we went into this little shack where everything was crooked and it was really hard to walk and this "force" seemed to pull you in directions that didn't feel natural... I'm not sure what else to say about it? It was a strange place, but as you can see we had a lot of fun!
And now, our final stop for the day, and the main reason for our visit to Rapid City, South Dakota- a visit to Mt. Rushmore!
This was by far my favorite stop of the day. I had never been to Mt. Rushmore before and didn't really know what to expect and didn't really think I would enjoy seeing Mt. Rushmore in person too much, but I really loved it. It is quite an amazing monument and the presentation, movie, and "night lighting" ceremony were really great.
Attempting to entertain our crazy little boy. Still going on no nap and going slowly insane it was quite the challenge to keep this little boy entertained for the 20 or so minutes we had to wait before the "night lighting" of Mt. Rushmore (which included the presentation and movie, all of which I really loved- the movie was really inspiring in a very patriotic way and the "night lighting" was really neat).
Reading books and playing with his new little animals that grandma and grandpa got him in Yellowstone before meeting us in South Dakota. :) Keaton loves them!
Watching the sun go down on the mountain...
Playing on the ipod touch... this was honestly a lifesaver this trip!
(Oh, I really love this picture! I have such a cute little family and I love them so much!)
Sadly, Keaton didn't make it through the movie and Justin ended up leaving because Keaton was screaming bloody murder... Okay, so maybe isn't wasn't THAT bad, but it was pretty bad. At the end of the lighting they invited all those who have served or who are currently serving our country to come to the stage and retire the flag. It was a surprisingly emotional moment for me and I just love this picture that Justin was able to get right after they took the flag down.
All the state flags all lit up as we left.
Mmm.. and this little boy (who minus a few crazy moments was such a good boy on this very long day) fell asleep in less than 5 minutes (I kid you not!) of being put back in the stroller to walk out to the car.
He didn't even wake up when we moved him from the stroller to the car seat.
The perfect ending to a super fun day. :)
