(A picture of Keaton's brand new shoes- we stopped at the Shopko in Norfolk on our way out of town and picked them up along with some new socks. He is outgrowing all his shoes way too fast! Have I mentioned that I am a little sad that my big boy is getting so big, so fast??)
Keaton- not smiling- and being a little bit of a stinker when I asked if I could take a picture of him and to say "Cheese!" (The terrible 2's are beginning to come out more and more frequently these days...)So, The Mammoth Site is described best on their website. It is a place where you can-
"Travel back to the time when Ice Age mammoth, camel, and giant short-faced bear roamed the Great Plains of North America. Imagine a sudden collapse of a 60 foot deep karst sinkhole. Bubbling from the bottom, a warm spring percolates through the layers of limestone, now creating a large steep-sided pond. Picture thirsty animals venturing down to the water below...then, after drinking, animals unable to gain a foothold to escape. The sinkhole was a deathtrap."
Sad right? I thought it was pretty darn sad.
At The Mammoth Site we were able to go on a little tour that took us around the facility where they are trying to uncover the animals that fell into the sink hole. We walked around the building from station to station using these phones to listen to the tour guide tell us about all the different things we were seeing. It sounds kinda lame maybe, but it was actually really cool. We all enjoyed it quite a bit.
The remains of almost an entire wooley mammoth. Crazy!
Keaton found the "phone tour" system to be pretty entertaining.
(A terrible 2 moment in the making... ha, ha.)
(Oh, Keaton! What is that face all about?!)
Once we finished our tour at The Mammoth Site it was apparent it was Keaton's naptime so grandma and grandpa had fun entertaining Keaton in the car. :)
Playing on the computer...And, looking at the map to see where we were going next...
We decided not to pay the outrageous prices to go closer to the Crazy Horse monument and just stopped outside the gates and looked/took pictures from there.
Can you see Crazy Horse's head?
